Maximizing Mental Fitness

It's a common myth that we use only 10 percent of our brains. We actually use all of it. But just like your body, you can improve your mental fitness. Use these strategies to increase your brain power and keep it healthy as you age.

Perfect your posture. Try solving a problem while slouching versus sitting upright and see how it impacts your mental clarity. Now sit up straight.

Use trapped downtime. Plan ahead with an Mp3 or iPod loaded with a good book or advice from a personal-development expert for when you're stuck in traffic, in line or in a waiting room.

Tell a good story. Sharing experiences in a compelling and fun way sharpens your mental recall.

Mix up your routine. Take a different route to work, or eat your salad after the main course. Changing your typical way of doing things tells your brain to wake up and pay attention.

Write. Writing notes, poetry, stories or in a journal helps your memory, clarifies your thinking and engages your creativity.

Work on your intuition. Every time you follow through on a hunch or listen to your inner dialogue, you are working your intuitive muscle.

Walk. The rhythmic pace of walking gets you breathing and limbered up, creating a physical and mental state conducive for clear thinking.

Laugh! Endorphins released when you laugh lower your stress and can help your long-term health. Ever notice you feel better after a big laugh?

To Seeking Deeper Meanings to Songs, Good Brain Activity

To listen to a song is soothing, and usually with more complicated lyrics, we take time to read through the wordings and, if possible, relate them to our own concerns or form our opinions on them. The content of songs is only one or the other: they are outright explained or hidden beneath metaphors and other symbolisms. Finding out what you favorite tune means is a good way to go deeper into your music appreciation as well as a good way to exercise your analytical skills.

Songs can mean almost anything the artists wish to be heard about, and beneath those fancy words, we know, come an entirely different storyline. Discovering the double meaning of the songs we listen to is a fun learning experience; not only were you able to appreciate the melody but also opened up another life form in the music piece.

1. Learn about the past: Songs written during or after times of crises usually possess hidden meaning. The reasons why musicians used to write this way are pretty obvious; they could have gotten either caught or wanted to open their hearts on the pains and struggles they have been through without much revelation in their writings. Digging into these types of songs will make you see the truth behind the cruelty of certain people or the morbid truth on how people were treated back then.

2. Issues: Sometimes, songwriters cannot directly open up an issue that concerns the present times. Usually with regards to the political scene, freedom of expression through music is still censored in a way still. One example, Eminem, who has won too many controversies a few years back for his use of profane language and crude remarks on his opinions towards homosexuality issues, the lower class society and their unproductive self-gratifying activities, which in totality speak of the reality of society as a whole. But for other artists, they choose to cover up their opinions in songs; that even though they may seem obvious at times, the indirect approach will not lead them to any protests and controversy like Eminem. Seeing through songs will very much broaden your views on certain issues; and through this you can either agree or object to their opinions and share meaningful discussions with friends and family.

3. Enhances further research: When you get to discover song meanings, broadening your knowledge on that certain topic comes out instinctively. Through having your favorite song as the tool used for learning, your research will be one that is fun and clearly of interest to you.

Listening from the content down to the melody is a better way of perceiving songs from now on; seeking the deeper meaning of your favorite tunes just makes your hobby much more interesting. Along with this new found hobby, documenting a story of your discoveries in your favorite music can be done through print catalogs . This can serve as a lifetime memorabilia of discoveries; considering catalog printing is more suitable as the product can contain a lot of information and photos.
