Tips for Losing Weight

OK, I never claimed to have my finger on the pulse of current events, and I make it a habit to let others talk about CNN and NPR and all the other letters.

However, I would have to live under a rock to not have heard all the buzz lately surrounding the "economic catastrophe" and "impending financial peril" that faces this street and that street. We all know this is serious business, and the world has stopped dead in its tracks waiting to see what happens next.

Odd ... nobody is worried about their body going out of business.

Honestly, the smallest working part of the economy is a person, going to work, saving their money and wanting their piece of the American Dream. If all the little cogs in a machine suddenly stop cogging, what do you think is going to happen to the machine? Right, it will stop.

Don't place all your hope on a risky move.

Don't think that there is some magic pill, super gizmo or anything that can get you out of the mess into which you've gotten your physique and health. You took a long time getting out of shape, so it will take a long time to reverse the curse. Placing all of your eggs in one basket doesn't work anywhere! Proper nutrition, resistance training and loads of cardiovascular work will provide a broad spectrum of ways for you to invest in your body and mind.

Don't get scared and pull out of the game.

So many times I hearken back to the words my friend, and financial genius, Bill Watts told me: "Hope makes the market go up, fear makes it go down." If you base anything on hope and fear, you are gambling with a lot more than just your money. However, if your objective is to plant your feet and fight for the health and figure you've always dreamed of, don't jump ship when the going gets tough! Meet with a trainer, sign up for a road race or try a new class. Keep yourself focused and don't worry - the results will come!

Cut back when it comes to your cheat day.

We all know cheat days are something most people trying to lose weight have had too many of as it is, but we need to stay realistic here. I would recommend that rather than having one whole day, try to have a half day or just a cheat meal. You can down way more than two days' worth of calories if you let (too) loose.
