For many couples, there comes a time when the relationship evolves to a place where you turn your thoughts to the future and continuing your lineage by having children. Children are a rite of passage for billions of people that many feel brings you forward to a new maturity, to new responsibility and to the opening of an overwhelming and powerful love that will bring not only a new life into the world, but your current relationships even closer.

Starting a family is, for many, magical - and it's no mean feat, either. There's so much to think about when planning for a baby that some people may yearn for a simpler time when you didn't need to think about money, job juggling and a heap of other issues affecting your lives - but, however, society dictates otherwise.

With most responsible, mature adults, the time for thinking about a baby normally comes when the couple have achieved some financial stability and can afford to cope with the tumult of a newborn child and maintain this stability. Whether one person has a high-paying job or both have relatively good salaries, this is one of the most important aspects of preparing for a child: being able to afford it.

Owning your own home is another important factor - though it can really come under the financial security aspect. By owning your home, or being well on the way to doing so, you introduce another level of stability into the mix that can make all the difference when coping with the stress of your first child.

Another kind of stability that is equally, or perhaps even more important, than finances is the stability of the couple's relationship. This may seem like an obvious point to touch on but it is paramount that both sides of the relationship are completely committed to themselves, one another and the little life they plan to bring into the world - because just think what could happen if any of these aspects weren't present.

Having a child is a wonderful thing. But the easiest way of going about it is to ensure that you're in the best environment for a baby. If you aren't quite there yet, it could be unfair to introduce a new life into the world with a disadvantage that could be avoided through patience and time. And that's not to mention various other things like having the room at home, affording medical expenses for the baby and yourself - even things like getting a car and a life insurance quote should be considered. And maybe one day your 'be prepared' attitude will be present in that of your child - a sure sign of promise!
